Panambur Beach will be developed on Goa model
Mangaluru: Panambur Beach, the seashore with the largest footfall in the city, will soon get a facelift with more tourism attractions like beaches in Goa.
The Dakshina Kannada district administration had finalised the bid of LRS Beach Tourism, a unit of Bhandary Builders here and signed an agreement for 10 years to develop and maintain Panambur beach through the successful bidder.
Due to several technical reasons, including Covid-19 pandemic, the prominent tourist destination of South India was lacking proper maintenance. Through a tender process, the district administration has handed over the contract to develop and maintain more than 15 acres of shore to LRS Beach Tourism. This will ensure a revenue of Rs 1.2 crore per year to the district administration.
LRS Beach Tourism has plans to introduce various tourism initiatives of international standards that would attract foreign tourists to the beach. There are plans to build 21 beach villas to attract foreign tourists and the beach will also have venues to host conventions, parties, and wedding ceremonies.
They also have planned to give more emphasis for water sports by introducing parasailing, speed boating, jet ski rides, banana ride, bumper ride, traditional boating, and dolphin sighting. Further, a feasibility study is being conducted to introduce scuba diving. All the initial work including cleaning and preparing the shore for development has already begun.
Lakshmish Bhandary, MD, Bhandary Builders, and promoter of LRS Beach Tourism, said the main vision is to give a world class touch to the beach. “We will give more emphasis for infrastructure development to make the beach an international tourism destination. All required infrastructure will be developed properly without affecting the traditions of the coastal region,” he said.
Dr Raajesh Hukkeri, promoter, LRS Beach Tourism, said that a majority of tourists who reach Panambur Beach are people from other districts and states. “People prefer to enjoy beach tourism in Kerala and Goa as we do not have sufficient infrastructure here. We will provide all basic facilities that are required for tourists to stay on the beach and ensure necessary safety and security for visitors,” he added.
