To tackle flooding, box drains likely in areas along Dwarka e-way
Gurgaon: To put an end to the chronic waterlogging problem in new sectors 112-115 that rears its head every monsoon, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will soon construct box drains and sump wells in the flood-prone areas near the Dwarka Expressway.
At present, no master stormwater drains are in existence in these sectors.
“A total of 4.7km-long box drains and two sump wells will be constructed to drain out the excess rainwater from these areas. This will provide relief to the new sector residents from waterlogging during the monsoon showers,” said a GMDA official.
Along with this project, the GMDA, at its 54th core planning committee (CPC) meeting on Tuesday, approved the proposal for desilting of the surface drain along the master road between sectors 47/50, 49/50, 61/62, 65/66,58/61,50/57 and Subhash Chowk in Gurgaon.
At present, the surface drain, according to officials, is not able to dispose of the rainwater in desired capacity due to silt, causing waterlogging on sector dividing roads. “A total of 12.58km of drain length will be covered under this proposal. CCTV cameras were used to determine the silt level in the surface drain,” the official said.
The proposal for the operation and maintenance of the 300 MLD water treatment plant in Chandu Budhera and the 270 MLD WTP in Basai was also approved in-principle by the GMDA’s CEO at the CPC meeting.
“The CEO directed that a more robust service-level agreement must be charted to better define the scope of work to be taken up by the agency as well as to measure the work executed,” said another official.
