JSR police take steps for smooth Xmas, NY

Jamshedpur: With Christmas and New Year celebrations round the corner, police in Steel City are gearing up to ensure that the revellers are safe.
East Singbhum SSP Prabhat Kumar said rash and drunken driving, eve-teasing and mobile snatching crimes will be dealt with firm hands as part of the measures.
The SSP also said they have also increased random frisking at strategic points near picnic spots, hotels and restaurants to ensure the safety of picnickers, who have started flocking to popular parks in and around the city, and revellers visiting popular hangouts and eateries.
Picnic spots in the suburban and rural areas in the Ghatshila sub-division besides, roadside dhabas dotting the National Highway-33 are also seeing encouraging turnouts. The sub-division police have been asked to take necessary precautionary steps to provide security to all revellers.
The citizens have been advised to comply with the safety and security measures sincerely and cooperate with the police in providing a congenial atmosphere for the celebrations.
The traffic police have also been directed to use breathalyzers to check drunken driving, besides asking them to keep eye on rash driving.
Kumar, who chaired a meeting of the traffic police on Tuesday, issued several directions to make sure that the celebrations were not marred by untoward incidents. Further, the traffic police were asked to discharge their duty properly so that there is no room for complaints from any quarter.
Recently, the top brass of the police received some complaints of confrontations by traffic police with motorists during checking for helmets.
For women’s safety, the SSP said 25 pink scooter women police teams will be deployed on patrolling to keep watch on the eve-teasers.
“As done during the Durga Puja period, 25 pink scooter teams will be put on patrolling to avert eve-teasing and pick-pockets during Christmas and New Year,” Kumar said, stressing that surprise checks will be conducted at intersections.
