NAGPUR: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced a special investigation team (SIT) for an inquiry into the alleged month-long delay by Palghar police in taking action in 2020 when Shraddha Walkar made a written domestic violence complaint against her live-in partner, Aaftab Poonawala.
Aaftab (28) was arrested on November 12 for murdering Shraddha (26) on May 18 in Delhi, and chopping her body into 30-plus parts.
Replying to a calling attention motion raised by all party legislators, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also said that Maharashtra is studying the laws in other states before enacting its own to stop alleged 'love jihad' attempts.
Pointing out that over 40 morchas were taken out recently demanding a stringent law against love jihad, Fadnavis said the government is not opposed to interfaith marriages, but it has observed that in such cases, marriages were being 'conspired' eventually forcing women to stay in relationship under pressure and torture.
