Coimbatore:Raising the issue of roads that were damaged during the 24x7 water supply project work at PN Pudur, ward councillor C Shanthi urged city corporation mayor Kalpana Anandakumar to immediately relay the damaged roads at the grievance day meeting on Tuesday.
Handing over a petition in this regard to the mayor, she said while the pipeline for the water project had been laid five months ago, the roads hadn’t been repaired yet.
Pointing out that the roads in her ward were not among the 260 stretches that were selected for relaying with the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund (TURIF) in the first and second phases of allocation, Shanthi said the list included the roads in wards where the water project work is yet to start.
“Officials should give equal treatment to all the wards,” the CPI councillor said. Some of the councillors from the central zone had aired a similar view at the zonal meeting last week.
Dr M Sharmila, deputy corporation commissioner, said the list was prepared and checked by assistant engineers and assistant executive engineers, respectively. “The roads that were left out will be covered in the third phase of TURIF allocation. We have sent a proposal for the fund.”
She said they had also requested the commissionerate of municipal administration to replace some of the roads in the list. “We are awaiting a response.”
