Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 1.59%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Monday.

Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra(up 3.12 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 2.96 per cent), Bajaj Auto(up 2.26 per cent), Ashok Leyland(up 2.23 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(up 2.05 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Tata Motors(down 0.85 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 1.59 per cent up at 12978.8.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 151.45 points at 18420.45, while the BSE Sensex stood up 468.38 points at 61806.19.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 ended in the green, while 44 closed in the red.

Shares of , , , IOB and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of , , , and hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Ishan International Ltd., Inox Green Energy Services Ltd., , Inds. and Phantom Digital Effects Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
