Mangaluru: The three-year tenure of the current syndicate members of Mangalore University (MU), appointed by the state government, will come to an end this week. A last syndicate meeting to be attended by them is scheduled on December 20.
Source s said there will not be an extension of their tenures and the government is likely to issue notifications for new appointment at the earliest. The MU has a total of eight syndicate members - two appointed by the governor and six by the state government. They are: K Ramesh, Parvathy Appaiah, Mohan Padival, Vivekananda Paniyala, Ravindranatha Rai and M S Talawar.
Ramesh, one of the syndicate members, said despite the pandemic, the members of the current syndicate body have been able to bring in several positive developments, both academically and administratively. “The syndicate body has been able to hike the remuneration paid to guest faculty to Rs 40,000. Paid maternity leaves to guest faculty and implementation of MULinx software for examination purposes. The software has saved the university several crores of rupees. With the continuous efforts of the members, MU has successfully adopted the double entry system. As a result, the university’s financial transactions are now more transparent,” he said.
