GURUGRAM: A 68-year-old man was hit by a pickup van at 6am near the Jhajjar bypass in the Farrukhnagar area, the police said.
According to cops, the victim, identified as Ram Ratan was on a morning walk with his son when a speeding van hit him from behind and fled the spot on Wednesday. Ratan was rushed to Medanta hospital from where he was referred to AIIMS. While Ratan's treatment is on, his son Jivesh filed a complaint with the police.
According to Jivesh, who does a private job, following their daily routine, he and his father stepped out for a walk at 5am on Wednesday. "We were on the road that goes from Jhajjar bypass to Gurgaon when a speeding pickup van came and hit my father from behind," Jivesh told the cops. Ratan's left hand was severed because of the accident and is admitted to the ICU, the police said.
An FIR has been registered at Farrukhnagar police station under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by endangering life of others) of IPC.
"We are tracing the accused. We have collected the CCTV footage of the nearby areas," said the police official.
