Karjat farmhouse owners panic as daring robbery cases spike

NAVI MUMBAI: Farmhouse owners in Karjat are petrified after an incident of robbery attempt at a farmhouse owned by a 55-year-old dentist on December 14.
Eight masked robbers armed with weapons barged into the doctor's farmhouse past midnight while the family members were fast asleep. The incident came to light the next morning after the doctor's mother-in-law found her room's bathroom window grille broken.
The doctor, PV Subramaniam who has a clinic in Chembur, checked CCTV footage and saw seven men enter through the main door as one of the robbers sneaked into the bungalow through the bathroom window opened the main door from the inside. The incident occurred at Janani Farm House at Bhoir wadi in Karjat.
Dr Subramaniam lodged an FIR at Karjat police station on December 15. He has provided CCTV camera footage of the masked me entering his bungalow.
A similar incident had occurred in July this year wherein a 28-year-old woman Akanksha Chauhan, who is a barrister in Toronto, Canada and her 55-year-old father Tarun Chauhan residing in Bandra, foiled a robbery attempt at their farmhouse in Karjat by three robbers on July 2 past midnight.
The robbers, who were armed with wooden sticks had barged into 'Chauhan Farmhouse'. Akanksha Chauhan had confronted the robbers who escaped.
These incidents have sparked fear among owners of bungalows in the area, said the police.
