At 1.67 lakh, MahaMetro logs highest ridership
Nagpur: MahaMetro recorded its highest ridership in a day just a week after two new lines were inaugurated. The number of passengers travelling by MahaMetro, on all the four corridors, were 1,63,798 till 10pm on Sunday, as per an official press release.
The passenger footfall began to increase soon after the inauguration of two lines on December 11. The ridership on the inauguration day was 79,701, even though the services were not available till 12 noon.
The ridership figures for December 12 were 1,09,754 and they kept going up till Sunday. The ridership figures for the next five days were 1,12,832 (Tuesday), 1,21,508 (Wednesday), 1,20,544 (Thursday), 1,23,008 (Friday) and 1,28,433 (Saturday).
The recently opened two lines started getting high footfall right from the second day of inauguration. Seeing the rush of the passengers, MahaMetro had deployed extra staff at all levels to handle the high number of commuters.
The increase in ridership points to quality planning and execution, MahaMetro officials said. The selection of routes, with Sitabuldi Interchange as the central point, too played a key role in more and more people opting for the Metro, they added. Officials said that interactive sessions organized by the MahaMetro and information kiosks also proved beneficial.
