Everybody has a role to play in state’s progress, says PWD minister
Margao: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral on Monday acknowledged the contribution of all successive governments in the state that came to office since Goa’s Liberation in 1961, even as he said that the current BJP dispensation was taking development to another level “in all directions”.
“Under the leadership of chief minister Pramod Sawant, the state is seeing days of progress, but it doesn’t mean that after 1961 there were no days of progress. Every government since Liberation has contributed towards the growth and progress of the state in every sector. This government is taking the development of the state in different directions. But the government alone can’t do everything. We all, as a team, should work for the success of the state,” Cabral said in his address after unfurling the tricolour at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao.
Recalling the supreme sacrifices of freedom fighters, Cabral said the freedom obtained from the colonial rule should be cherished as it has “helped us to become a part of the great nation”.
Pointing out that India hosting the G20 summit this time was a great honour for every citizen of the country, Cabral said that every individual has a role to play towards the progress of the country.
“It is very easy to blame others rather than ourselves. As I often refer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that if every individual decides not to litter, then where will garbage come from? If we all work together by finding the immediate solution for every problem no one can stop this country from becoming a No.1 nation,” Cabral said.
He urged people to participate in community service. “Do good deeds unto others and the society for which you will be remembered long after you are gone,” he said.
MLAs Alexio Sequiera, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Ulhas Tuenkar were amongst the dignitaries present on the occasion.
