Canacona: The first Olive Ridley turtle of this nesting season arrived early Sunday morning and laid 93 eggs at Talpona, Canacona.
The arrival of the flippered visitors is a much-awaited annual event. However, in a change from routine, this time, the turtle arrived on the shores of the Talpona beach, giving the beaches of Agonda and Galgibaga in Canacona, the other favourite nesting spots, a miss.
The 93 eggs were shifted to the Galgibaga beach, informed Range Forest officer (RFO), Vivek Gaonkar.
Forest officials, upbeat about the nesting season commencing, are now awaiting the arrival of turtles at Agonda and Galgibaga beaches.
In the last turtle nesting season, the first turtle had appeared on Agonda beach on December 31, 2022, and at Galgibaga on January 3
