Edu min threat case: Mail sender’s name fake, CCTV footage deleted
Bokaro: The district police which have formally started an investigation in connection with the threat letters received by education minister Jagarnath Mahto on Saturday said a person, identified as Vinod Mahto of a government school in Hazaribag as mentioned in the registered post as ‘sender’ of the threat letter, is found to be fake.
Police have also found the CCTV footage of the post office in Hazaribag from where the threat letters were posted was also deleted.
The office-in-charge of the Chandrapura police station, Kartik Mahto, said they have lodged an FIR and began a probe into the case. “The name of the sender on the registered post is fake and also the CCTV footage looks deleted,” he said.
Police have lodged the FIR under sections 387, 504 and 506 of the IPC in connection with the case. Notably, separate letters were received at the residence of the minister in Bhandaridah in Bokaro and Doranda in Ranchi on Thursday. The content of the letters is almost similar. Police suspect that the letters were allegedly been written by people from UP, Bihar and MP.
The letters warned JMM and their leaders, specially Mahto, and asked them to withdraw the 1932-based domicile policy or face consequences. The letter also claimed that the people belonging to the general category who are working with different government-aided inter and degrees colleges must get an increased honorarium.
On their probe, Kartik said, “When we went to the school in Hazaribag to conduct an investigation going by the address on the letter, we found that no person named Vinod Mahto works there. Also, the CCTV footage at the post office was deleted. The letter was sent to both the residences of the minister on December 3 through the Hazaribag post office. The post office officials informed us that CCTV footage was formatted on December 5 due to some technical glitch. We have asked for the backup footage now but haven’t received it so far. We are taking help from our technical cell in this regard.”
