Govt to set up hockey clubs in schools in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: To popularize hockey among children from the grassroots level ahead of the Mens’ Hockey World Cup scheduled to start from January 13, the school and mass education department in association with the sports and youth affairs department has started several activities in schools. The government has decided to set up Mo School Hockey Club in each district that will help in creating national and international hockey talents.
The school and mass education department has been conducting special sports events on the hockey theme. The students, who have been winning the matches, are participating in matches at the block and district levels. The sports meet that started on December 8 will continue till January 10 in all schools. State grants have been provided to all districts for organising World Cup hockey-themed sports activities in schools.
Hoardings, banners, standees and posters reflecting FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup will be installed in schools and sports grounds across the state. Schools have been provided with sports equipment and accessories.
