KHARAGPUR: IIT-Kharagpur's first phase of 2021-22 placement session ended in the second week of December with 1,600-plus job offers and 900-plus internship offers in 12 days. Starting with 500-plus pre-placement offers, the race to 1,000-plus offers by the second day was the fastest in all IITs.
Over 300 companies across various sectors, including software, high-level coding, analytics, consulting, core-engineering, banking/finance and high-frequency trading, participated this session, which saw 48 offers at a CTC range of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2.6 crore per annum. More than 45 offers were from international firms. Five foreign students, too, secured
jobs this time. Among the companies that participated were Airbus, Accenture Japan, Da Vinci Derivatives, Excel, Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Squarepoint Capital, N K Securities, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto and Jaguar Land Rover.
IIT Kharagpur Career Development Centre (CCD) chairman A Rajakumar attributed the performance to the institute's curriculum, students' technical skills and trustworthy association of CDC with corporate recruiters. "We hope more core companies will offer placements and internship opportunities in the second phase of hiring. CDC is looking forward to nurturing mutually beneficial relationship," Rajakumar said. The second phase of placement is proposed to start from the second week of January 2023.
The first phase of placement over, the institute is also gearing up to celebrate its 68th convocation on December 24. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the chief guest and IIT Kharagpur Board of Governors chairman Rajendra Prasad Singh will also be present. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred on Brij K Dhindaw, who served as the teaching and research faculty in the metallurgical and materials engineering department (material science centre) at the institute from 1966 to 2009 . Dhindaw was instrumental in organizing and introducing the first Masters programme in medical science and technology for MBBS students and industry-sponsored post-graduate diploma course in steel technology at IIT Kharagpur. Honoured with the National Metallurgist Day Award from the Centre for his contribution to metal science, Dhindaw has worked with CSIR, DRDO, ARDB, DST and the ministry of education on notable projects.
