PUNE: The construction of the Metro viaduct over the railway tracks at Sangam bridge is expected to begin in the next few days as the railway administration has given in-principle approval for the work, a MahaMetro official said.
The Metro track crosses the railway track at Sangam bridge and moves ahead towards RTO Chowk. Crossing the track is crucial to establish the Metro's link towards Ramwadi. "We have already completed the construction of a viaduct till the railway tracks from both sides. Only a portion above the tracks is yet to be completed. With the in-principle approval from the railways, we will now be able to finish the work at the earliest," the official said.
The MahaMetro has already submitted technical details and sketches to the railway authorities. "We are waiting for the railway administration to finalise the schedule for the launch of girder. The work is expected to be finished before the month-end. Our teams are now working on a plan to move the required machinery and cranes at the location, where the girder will be launched to cross the tracks," a MahaMetro official said.
This is second spot from where the Metro will run above the railway tracks. A few months ago, the MahaMetro had constructed a viaduct on rail tracks near Khadki station.
As per plan, the Metro link till Ramwadi will be ready by March 2023.
