JAIPUR: A 45-year-old history-sheeter was shot dead by unknown assailants on Saturday evening following an ongoing dispute over illegal mining in Mirzapur in Rajasthan's Baran district.
Till Sunday morning, the family of the history-sheeter was not willing for the post-mortem and staging a protest.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Akhtar Mirza who was shot dead by at least six armed assailants in front of his 17-year-old son. Mirza was a resident of Chahedia village in Baran district.
The incident took place on Saturday evening when Mirza on a bike from Sangod had come to give food to the labourers and family members present at his farm. His son was also accompanying him.
“The assailants came with sticks, sharp edged weapons and opened fire. It is found that Mirza sustained at least four bullet injuries,” said a senior police officer.
Kalyan Mal Meena, superintendent of police, Baran, said, “The body has been kept at a hospital at Mirzapur. It appears that old rivalry and dispute could be the reason behind the murder. All the accused have been identified and teams are formed to nab them. We have been conducting raids since Saturday evening.”
According to the police, there has been an old dispute over illegal mining in which the houses of Akthar Mirza’s brothers were also set ablaze some time ago and their crops were destroyed. Earlier in 2018, Akthar and his brothers had opened fire on at least six people. Mirza and his brothers also went to jail in this case and he had left Chahedia village and started living in the Sangod area for some years.
