BENGALURU: A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in partner, after she demanded that he marry him, and trying to project it as a suicide.
The autopsy report exposed that "the death was due to compression of the neck" and preliminary investigation revealed that Prashanth, a resident of Singasandra and employee of an e-commerce firm, had strangled Sunitha C, his live-in partner from Andhra Pradesh, to death. Cops said the incident took place on December 7.
Parappana Agrahara police said Sunitha was working with a private firm in Bengaluru, where she met Prashanth. The duo liked each other and decided to get married. Prashanth promised to marry her soon after his sister's wedding. She agreed and they began living together four years ago.
Sunitha noticed that Prashanth was not showing any interest in marrying her even after his sister tied the knot last year. So, she started pressuring him to marry her. On December 7, she raised the issue, which led to a fight. He allegedly assaulted her and strangled her to death by pressing his foot on her neck.
He called an ambulance and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Prashanth told the doctors that she had hanged herself. Alerted by the hospital staff, Parappana Agrahara police rushed to the hospital and suspected foul play.
They registered a suspicious death case, collected her call detail records, and and contacted her parents on December 8. The parents arrived in the city and suspected that Prashanth might have murdered Sunitha. Police arrested Prashanth after the autopsy report confirmed the murder. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
