Kota: A 17-year-old JEE Mains aspirant was thrashed by 5-6 masked people as one of them filmed the attack with his mobile phone on Wednesday noon when the student was on his way to a coaching centre at Mahaveer Nagar-I under Jawahar Nagar police station of the city.
After a video of the attack emerged from a nearby CCTV camera on Friday, and the youth’s parents lodged a case, police booked 7-8 unidentified men and began a probe. None of the accused has been identified so far.
The vicitm, a native of Hanumangarh, has been preparing for JEE Mains in Kota for eight months and lives at a PG accommodation at Mahaveer Nagar – I. The masked men who thrashed him were reportedly waiting with their bikes at some distance from the PG.
The CCTV footage shows 5-6 masked men chasing and grabbing the student from behind as he walked around 40-50 steps away from the PG. They are then seen thrashing him with punches on his head and back for a few minutes while one of them is seen filming the attack on his mobile phone at a distance. The assailants fled on their bikes when people from nearby hostels came out to rescue the student after hearing his screams.
The student’s father reached Kota on Thursday and lodged a case against the unidentified assailants.
“Investigation in the matter is underway. None of the accused has been traced so far. Efforts are on to trace and arrest them,” said Vasudev, the circle inspector of Jawahar Nagar police station.
After the incident, the victim has stopped going to the coaching institute to attend classes and is in a state of depression, said his father to journalists. “My son did not have enmity with anyone,” said the victim’s father. tnn
