COIMBATORE: Organs, including a heart valve, liver and two kidneys, of a three-year-old brain dead boy from Bengaluru were donated to three patients who were waiting for a donor.
According to sources, Dhiyaan of Bengaluru who came to his grandfather's house in the Nilgiris district on December 8 sustained a severe head injury when he fell to the ground from the terrace while playing.
He was rushed to a nearby private hospital for first aid and later shifted to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) for further treatment.
He was declared brain dead on December 14. His parents Preetham and Divya came forward to donate the vital organs of their son to help patients who are suffering from organ failure.
As per the guidelines of the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN), the KMCH doctors harvested the three vital organs of the boy which helped three organ failure patients get a fresh lease of life.
KMCH chairman Nalla G Palaniswami lauded the boy’s parents for taking the right call to save the lives of other patients who were in the dire need of organs.
