ROHTAK: Lokender Phogat has won the Rohtak Bar Association election by defeating rival candidate Sanjeev Batra on Friday. It was the eight time when advocate Lokender Phogat aka Jojo won the district bar association election and got elected president.
Phogat defeated Batra by 943 votes. Karan Narang was elected vice-president. The voting started at 8am on Friday and ended at 5pm in the evening time. After the counting at 6pm, the result was announced at 9pm yesterday.
This election was interesting for many reasons as many rivals of Phogat had clubbed together to defeat him but he remained undefeatable eight times as well.
Advocate Naseeb Panghal who was campaigning for the president post for a long time had extended his support in favour of Sanjeev Batra in the last election. Advocate Deepak Kundu, who was closely associated with Phogat in past had also stood in support of Batra.
Election officer Satbir Nehra said that of the 3083 total votes, 2732 votes were polled.Nehra said that in the interest of free and fair poll, the counting was performed two times to the satisfaction of all candidates.
