Panaji: The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be rolled out in full swing from the next academic year starting 2023. For this, education technologies will be adopted and all colleges in Goa will be brought under a single unified academic management information system, where all academic activities can be managed centrally, including admission, attendance, examination results, and even libraries, chief minister Pramod Sawant was told at a meeting of the Goa State Higher Education Council, he chaired recently.
Sawant said that it should be ensured that all colleges in Goa are accredited by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC). He had recently noted that of the 64 institutions affiliated with the Goa University, which are under the purview of the directorate of higher education, only 26 have been accredited by NAAC till date.
“Goa can be a model state where all higher education institutions in Goa get NAAC accreditation,” Sawant, who is also the education minister, told the Goa State Higher Education Council.
Higher education officials said that implementation of NEP 2020 is already in progress in Goa. All academic restructuring based on the policy is on and will be implemented from academic year 2023.
Under NEP 2020, students will have multiple entry and exit options in their academic programmes. Students also will have the option of choosing four-year undergraduate programme in general education, where direct entry to PhD will be possible for eligible students.
Officials said that as part of NEP 2020, two major software projects are already being executed. A single state scholarship portal is being developed where students will be able to apply for scholarships at one place. Additionally, an industry-internship portal will allow students to choose their internships through a single portal. Internship will now be a part of the academic curriculum under NEP 2020.
The Goa State Higher Education Council has been established under a legislative act and is formulating plans and monitoring implementation of the plans as per NEP for higher education institutes in Goa.
Goa has become the first state to establish the Goa State Research Foundation, which is on the lines of proposed National Research Foundation at the national level. Last week, former Goa University professor M K Janarthanam has been appointed as chairman of state research foundation and will take charge from January 1.
