ULHASNAGAR: The Ulhasnagar police have booked at least 15 people, including
Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction's city unit chief Rajendra Chaudhari, former Congress corporator Godhumal Krishnani and some hoteliers for grabbing a huge plot worth over Rs 50 crore near Vithalwadi railway station by fabricating documents of tribal woman.
The case was registered late on Thursday after complainant Sharda Vaghari (45) approached police with all documents alleging that Chaudhari and others prepared false documents of her plot of 8312 square metre.
Acting on the complaint, police filed an FIR under forgery, cheating and conspiracy against 15 people, including Chaudhary, Krishnani, hotelier Pravin Krishnani, hotelier Sadanand Shetty and others.
After registering the FIR, police called Chaudhary for questioning. However, his supporters gathered outside the police station seeking his release.
After around 12 hours, police released Chaudhary on Friday.
Shiv Sainiks who were protesting against Chaudhary's detention alleged that since he did not join Shinde group of Shiv Sena, the ruling party was harassing him.
Chaudhary claimed police had called only him for a case related to the complaint against him and there was no political motivation behind it.
Sudhakar Pathare, deputy commisioner of police, said, "The accused booked in case prepared forged documents of a woman belongs to tribal community to grab her land and acting on her complaint, the FIR was registered."
