BENGALURU: Three people from Nepal allegedly stole gold and diamonds worth over Rs 1 crore and Rs 35 lakh cash from a businessman's residence in JP Nagar on December 2. They have since fled to their country.
Brij Bhushan Agarwal, who runs a shop on SP Road, stated in his complaint that Vimala, a caretaker he had hired for his mother and to do household chores, had made away with Rs 35 lakh cash and gold and diamond ornaments.
Initially, police registered a case against Vimala based on Agarwal's complaint. Further investigation revealed that she had the help of two others. After coming to know there was a lot of gold, diamonds and cash in the house, Vimala summoned her boyfriend and his friend, stole the valuables, and fled. City police are seeking help from their counterparts in Nepal to arrest the suspects.
Agarwal told police he Vimala had joined work on November 9. He left home at 9.30am on December 2 and returned around 7 pm. He found Vimala missing and his mother, Kamal Agarwal, unconscious. Vimala had given her sedative-laced drinks. Agarwal initially told police Vimala had left with Rs 35 lakh cash. He gave details of the missing jewels after his mother recovered.
Police said Agarwal had not collected any ID proof or checked Vimala's antecedents before hiring her. In the past three months in south Bengaluru, this is the fourth case of Nepalis working as domestic workers or guards fleeing with valuables from their employers.
