HYDERABAD: A ragpicker and his teenage son suffered injuries when a plastic can they were trying to open forcibly exploded on Thursday at a dumpyard in Lower Tank Bund.
Experts from the Clues team confirmed the explosion occurred from the plastic can containing an organic solvent suspected to be remnants of paint thinner. The victims have been identified as Chandranna, 42, his 16-year-old son who reside in Mudfort area of Secunderabad.
On Thursday morning, Chandranna along with his wife and their two children went to the dumpyard adjacent to Snow World to pick up scrap material. While collecting the scrap, Chandranna and his son came across a plastic can. As they were forcibly trying to open the lid, it exploded with a loud noise.
“Chandranna’s right palm was severely damaged in the explosion. His son received minor injuries to his head and hands. Both of them are out of danger,” A Yadagiri, Chikkadpally ACP said. Chandranna’s wife and daughter were unharmed. The Clues team collected samples of the can for analysis and a case has been registered by Saifabad police.
