Admin work for us will hamper study hours: Teachers to CM
Gurgaon: Even as the state government boasts of hiring new educators to address the issue of staff shortage in government schools, teachers have urged the chief minister to better utilise their teaching hours. In a letter addressed to Khattar, government schoolteachers have appealed to the authorities to bring in a policy that prohibits assigning non-teaching jobs to educators so that the teaching hours are not compromised.
Teachers have asserted that if the newly hired teachers have to be utilised to improve the teaching-learning ecosystem in the government schools and subsequently improve the learning outcomes, educators need to be free from the administrative work that are eating up their teaching hours.
The recent letter has been issued after the government issued a circular, directing government school teachers to organise a three-day camp to update the data for the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) beneficiaries and income verification of the residents of the state.
“Throughout the year, teachers are involved in a host of tasks that lead to the dissipation of time and energy that primarily should be used to educate the students and improve their learning outcomes. These tasks do not fall under the purview of the education department, yet teachers are used to doing that tasks that ideally should be carried out by Saral Kendras. We have written to the CM to take this matter seriously if the Nipun Haryana mission has to be implemented in letter and spirit and the government is serious about enhancing the Foundational Learning and Numeracy (FLN) skills,” said Satpal Sindhu, the president of Haryana School Lecturers Association .
A government school student studying in class 10 affirmed that on many days teachers just hand them homework. “Every month, there are either some camps, events, or other things that deprive us of classroom learning,” said Anjali.
