PANAJI: The Goa government has set a target of adding an additional 20 per cent income to the state’s current
GDP through increase in agriculture in Goa, water resources department’s chief engineer Pramod Badami said on Friday.
Post liberation, Goa has constructed six dams.
Each of these caters to two components — drinking water supply which is almost covered and irrigation.
In the last 10 days, the latter has reduced to 40 per cent coverage, as compared to 60 per cent.
“To become swayampurna, agriculture is the backbone. We want to bridge the gap in agriculture and add an additional 20 per cent to the state’s current GDP through it,” Badami said
He said that chief minister Pramod Sawant and WRD minister Subhash Shirodkar are continuously following up on measures to increase the income of farmers. “We will push for more people to get into agriculture,” he said.
Sawant and Shirodkar will also interact with farmers to boost agriculture in the state.
