Gurgaon: “I don’t think even we will be able to afford such expensive clothes or shoes,” remarked a senior police officer as he took in the attire of Vikas Lagarpuria (32) while the notorious gangster was being led away in STF custody.
The gangster, a resident of Lagarpuria village in Jhajjar’s Badli and a dropout of Ram Lal Anand College, Delhi University, loves wearing expensive clothes, driving fancy cars and using sophisticated weapons, sources said. In 2009, he came in touch with gangster Dheerpal when he was a frequent visitor to an akhara in Najafgarh.
Lagarpuria was arrested for the first time in 2012 on charges of murder along with Dheerpal. He walked out on bail in 2013.
Lagarpuria soon formed his own gang, and by 2015, more than 16 cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion had been registered against him. Delhi Police booked the gangster under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act in 2015.
He was again arrested the same year by Gurgaon police and was in Bhondsi jail till December 2018. He applied for parole citing the ill health of a family member, but once out, he never returned.
“He studied up to Class 10 in a private school in Badli and passed out of Class 12 from another private school in Mahendergarh. In 2007, he took admission in history (Hons) at Ram Lal Anand College, but dropped out soon after,” a police officer said.
