Two held for theft of diesel worth Rs 8.9L
Vasco: During a raid conducted late Wednesday night at Sancoale, crime branch officials seized 10,335 litres of diesel worth Rs 8.9 lakh and a barge-cum-tanker costing around Rs 90 lakh for illegally supplying, stacking and stealing diesel. Two involved in the crime were arrested.
Sources said that after receiving a tip, a police team conducted a raid along the Vasco-Cortalim highway at Zorint, Sancoale. Diwakar Singh, a native of Bihar, and Daniel Megno Vales, a resident of Zorint, Sancoale, were caught red-handed storing 10,335 litres of diesel.
Police said the recovered diesel was stolen from a barge called Royal Pamba and stored in plastic and metal tanks.
“During initial interrogation, it was revealed that the barge used to take the diesel from the IOC depot from Vasco in large quantities of over two lakh litres to fuel some ships. While returning, it used to keep the diesel in the fixed compartments that they used to unload at a dock based at Zorint. The stolen diesel was later sold in the local market,” police said.
The crime branch has registered an offence under IPC provisions against those arrested. They were produced before the Vasco JMFC and have been remanded in one-day police custody.
