KOLKATA: The investigators are facing several challenges in recovering the cash and jewellery looted by a gang posing as CBI officers from a Bhowanipore businessman, more than 72 hours after the crime. The gang on Monday had walked away with a booty of Rs 38 lakh.
A senior officer at Lalbazar on Thursday admitted that "little progress has been made so far" where the recovery is concerned. "But we now have multiple leads that can help making some quick recoveries," said an officer.
According to senior officers, the eight accused arrested from Bankura and Haridevpur are trying to shift blame on each other, denying any knowledge of where the booty is.
"It can mean two things - that someone close to the family is involved and they acted as foot soldiers and that they are very well-organized and know how to keep us guessing." Joint CP Sankha Subhra Chowdhury, said, "We are on the verge of unearthing the entire truth."
The probe has also revealed the arrested driver was using Ranjan Chowdhury as a pseudo name. "His real name is Abu Bakkar Chowdhury. He is the main accused in a cheating case in N 24 Parganas," said an officer.
