Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said the CPM was committed to support and encourage anyone who takes an unflinching stand against the agenda of Sangh Parivar forces and supports the big-ticket development initiatives of the state government.
In an article published in the party mouthpiece on Thursday, Govindan said several UDF allies, including Indian Union Muslim League, have taken the right kind of approach towards both Sangh Parivar and Vizhinjam port project. “It was for this reason that the stand of IUML was welcomed. The CPM is committed to support and encourage such stands. This need not be mixed up with the issue of entry into LDF,” Govindan said.
It was good for the future of the country that even UDF allies think that the policies of the Left are more effective than Congress in the fight against Sangh Parivar agenda. “LDF has become more acceptable to minorities for the stand it takes against the Sangh Parivar,” he added.
Govindan claimed that the right stand adopted by the state government towards the protest against Vizhinjam port project has helped it to garner more public support. “It has not only made a positive impact on the general public but also created a new crisis in the UDF. The League has come out in open against moves to obstruct development. RSP also stood with the government in the governor issue. As a result, UDF had to support the bill aimed at removing the governor as the chancellor of state universities,” he said.
Accusing the BJP government at the Centre of using governors against non-BJP state governments, Govindan said the UDF had initially tried to take political advantage using the friction between the governor and government.
He said a section of the media has downgraded the profession into a scandal business as it has focused on anti-CPM and anti-government news. The way a section of media handled the Vizhinjam agitation by a small section of people, with the support of several others, proved this, he added.
