AHMEDABAD: With two new Covid cases and 46 patients discharged, the number of active cases in Gujarat reached 25 - the lowest in the state since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. The active cases have come down drastically in the past two days with 160 patients discharged from hospitals.
Of the 33 districts in the state, 23 have zero active Covid cases, whereas the remaining 10 have single-digit cases.
Ahmedabad has the highest number of cases at seven, followed by six in Vadodara, three in Kutch, two each in Surat and Panchmahal, and one each in Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Patan and Rajkot districts. The figures are also the lowest for Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot since the first week of the pandemic.
"Covid-19 has taken the form of an endemic from being a pandemic. While there could be cases with or without symptoms, the testing is at an all-time low with no major screening drive. With widespread vaccination and herd immunity, the deadly infection has waned. The new variants are on the horizon, but for now, the low number of cases is a reason to rejoice," said a city-based public health expert.
