Bus topples; 13 students injured in Mysuru
More than a dozen students from a Mysuru school sustained injuries when the bus toppled near Byakodu in Sagara on Thursday
SHIVAMOGGA: Over a dozen students from a Mysuru school on an excursion were injured after the bus in which they were travelling toppled near Byakodu in Sagara taluk of Shivamogga district on Thursday. The driver and a teacher were injured and treated at a hospital.
They are said to be out of danger. In all, 50 students and a dozen staff were on board when the accident happened.
The bus toppled onto a roadside after it passed a narrow bridge at Vokkodi village near Byakod, which is in Kargal police station limits at 9 am. The villagers rushed to their aid and summoned 108 ambulances. Thirteen students, a teacher and a driver were taken to a government hospital in Sagar, which is 20km away from the spot.
Other students were shifted to BCM hostel at Byakod with assistance from the police. According to cops, the accident happened due to negligence on the part of the driver.
Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar GK informed the media that the students injured were from a government high school in Dharmapura village in Hunsur, Mysuru district. All are safe and have boarded a separate bus on their return journey home, he said.
Speaking to TOI, school headmaster Shivarudrappa said they had started their journey on Wednesday morning. They had visited Horanadu, Kuppali and Kolluru and were on their way to Sigandur Chowdeshwari temple on Thursday morning. The bus toppled near Sagara but luckily all are fine, he stated.
