COIMBATORE: A 29-year-old man from the city ended his life by suicide after he lost money on online games. The body of R Shankar, from Uppilipalayam, was found inside a hotel room on Sastri Road at Ram Nagar on Tuesday evening. He was an engineering graduate and was working in a private company.
"Shankar left his house on Monday after informing his family members that he was going out of town on work-related travel. He rented a room at the hotel in Ram Nagar that afternoon.
As he did not come outside of the room and hotel staff attempts to contact him did not elicit any response, the hotel manager opened the room with a spare key on Tuesday evening and found him hanging," said a police officer.
After the manager informed the Kattoor police, a team led by sub-inspector Elangeswaran came to the spot and shifted the body to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
"We recovered a suicide note signed by Shankar. He mentioned that he decided to kill himself after he lost the money he borrowed from friends and kin on online games," the officer said.
