Berhampur: An 88-year-old man has lodged a complaint with the Cyber and Economic Offence police station, here, that more than Rs 6 lakh have been fraudulently transferred from his account without him sharing his bank details or OTP with anyone. Sukanto Patro of Old Christian Street claimed he had lost Rs 6,03,301 in 11 transactions between November 22 and December 1.
Patro said he came to know about the fraudulent transactions on December 2 when he visited the bank to enquiry about his pension as he did not receive any message from the bank related to the money being credited for the month. When he updated his passbook he discovered the fraud.
SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said as per his knowledge it was not possible to make fraudulent transactions without sharing any bank account details.
“In most cases, the victims are seen to have disclosed the OTP or other account details to criminals, resulting in the fraud,” the SP said, adding that investigation has been launched.
