COIMBATORE: The state government would not acquire any agricultural land from farmers for setting up an industrial park at Annur, Nilgiris MP and DMK’s deputy general secretary A Raja said in the city on Wednesday. Instead, the government would utilize 2,000 acres belonging to private companies in the area, he said.
“No individual landowner will be affected due to the industrial park project being implemented under the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO),” Raja said while speaking to reporters.
“Since the villages come under my constituency, I spoke with the chief minister and industries minister. We have decided to acquire only land belonging to companies, not farmers. The government will soon release a revised order in this regard,” he added.
He assured that the establishment of industrial units will not cause pollution and adhere to the Union government’s environmental clearance. He slammed a few political parties and organisations that were opposing the project for their political gain.
“I had already visited the area and held talks with the people,” Raja said. Priority would be given to locals on employment opportunities in the industrial park, he added.
