Kuniyamuthur residents block Palakkad Road

Coimbatore: A group of residents blocked the busy Palakkad Road in Kuniyamuthur on Wednesday morning to protest against the poor drainage facilities on the stretch.
The protesters highlighted the Tuesday evening’s downpour that inundated the road and caused heavy traffic snarls.
There is no proper channel for rainwater to enter stormwater drain, said K Rajan, a resident. “Due to traffic snarls, pedestrians had no space to walk,” he said.
The road roko was observed until police personnel reached the spot to pacify the protesters. “The residents staged the protest complaining about the poor drainage system in Kuniyamuthur and noted that several areas were flooded within two hours of rain. We held talks with them and assured them to take their pleas to the department concerned,” a police officer said.
