PUNE: The Airport police are investigating a 37-year-old Wadgaon Sheri woman’s complaint accusing a man (38) she met through a dating application of sexually exploiting her.
Police said the alleged crime took place between 2018 and November 2022. In her complaint lodged on Tuesday, the woman told police that she first met the man, who stays in Vimannagar, in 2018 through a dating app.
Inspector Mangesh Jagtap of the Airport police said, “The woman used to work in a bank as a clerical staff. The man used to work in a private company. After meeting on the app, the two came together and started a hotel. They lived separately. The man is a divorcee while she is unmarried.”
“The two had a physical relationship, and the man, without her knowledge, filmed their intimate acts. Following this, he started blackmailing her. He threatened to upload the videos on social media platforms and demanded Rs 4 lakh not to upload the videos,” he said. “The woman reluctantly gave him Rs 50,000.”
Between January and October this year, the cyber police have registered 15 cases in which suspects demanded money after contacting the victim through dating websites.
