GURUGRAM: Ten days after thieves dismantled and fled with parts of a transformer that powered a pump, around 2,000 residents of Sancholi in Sohna are yet to get regular supply of water to the village.
Instead, most of the 650-odd families have had to travel to the neighbouring village of Nunera, some 2km away, to get water for drinking and other utilities.
"The water tank is on the outskirts of the village and one has to cross a forested area to reach there. On December 3, some unidentified men ran off with the transformer that supplies electricity for the pump, which helps transport water to Sancholi. We've not had any supply for the last ten days," said Sheru, the husband of village sarpanch Gulshan, who has been informed about the situation.
Another villager and former panchayat member Kareemuddin said on Tuesday that he has been bringing water from Nunera on his own.
On the basis of a complaint by the public health and engineering department, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Electricity Act on the day of the theft, but no arrests have been made so far.
On the progress in the case, police said they have formed teams to arrest the accused. "We registered an FIR as soon as we got a complaint," said Jai Singh, SHO at the Sohna police station.
On Tuesday, a villager also alleged that the administration was unbothered despite their complaints. "When we call the officials, they do not respond," a resident said.
When asked if the discom was taking any steps to restore power supply, DHBVN sub-divisional officer Liyakat Ali said, "The matter is in our knowledge and we are also in a process of installing a new transformer, so that villagers do not face any water scarcity."
