Coimbatore: Following the recent wall collapse incident in the Chinnarpathy tribal settlement in Pollachi, the revenue department has mooted a survey to identify damaged houses in three tribal settlements in the region to prevent any mishap in future.
On early Saturday morning, a wall of the house belonging to K Mayavan at Chinnarpathy collapsed after incessant rainfall. The incident triggered the forest and revenue department officials to conduct a survey to identify damaged houses at Chinnarpathy, as well as Paramankadavu and Udumanparai tribal settlements in Valparai.
Pollachi sub-collector S Priyanka said the survey work is underway and officials would come up with a list of beneficiaries whose houses are damaged or in the dire need of renovation in these three settlements. Once the list is prepared, the renovation work would begin with funds from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
An official said the revenue department asked the forest department to release compensation for the owner of the damaged house at Chinnarpathy. “The forest department also covered the damaged portion of the house using galvanized iron sheets for the time being.”
Meanwhile, district president of the Tamil Nadu tribal association V S Paramasivam reiterated his demand to use the entry fees collected at the Aliyar checkpost for renovating or building new houses for tribals.
