Nagpur: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which decides the schedule for the state legislature session, on Tuesday approved the December 19-30 schedule for Nagpur session but also said that it will hold a review on December 28 to fix the actual last working date. Leader of opposition in assembly Ajit Pawar demanded that the Nagpur session should be held for at least three weeks.
The last time Nagpur hosted the assembly session was in December 2019.
Neelam Gorhe, deputy chairperson of Maharashtra legislative council, said, “The schedule has been approved for December 19-20. However, during the meeting it was decided to hold another meeting of the BAC on December 27 or 28, and review the status, to decide the actual last working day for the winter session.”
The senior politician added that a lot of business will be transacted during this session. “We will have almost 25 bills being tabled. Apart from that there will be various issues taken up by legislators that will be discussed in both the assembly and council,” said Gorhe.
The ongoing Karnataka-Maharashtra controversy too will resonate in the legislature. Gorhe has proposed that all parties pass a resolution in support of a united Maharashtra and those living along the impacted area of the state’s border. “My proposal was accepted by all in the BAC. Now we will pass the resolution, all parties standing united with our Marathi people in the region,” said Gorhe.
Pawar said the Nagpur session must be extended. “This session should be of minimum three weeks, as we have not had a session in Nagpur for quite some time due to Covid-19. There are multiple issues related to Vidarbha and Marathwada that need to be addressed. There are a plethora of questions related to Nagpur and Amravati region, which need to be discussed during this session,” said Pawar.
The senior NCP leader said that all opposition parties will come together and discuss the agenda for the session. “We will arrive in Nagpur late on December 17 night or next morning. After a meeting with all opposition parties, it will be decided which issues to take up on priority,” said Pawar.
