Ranchi: Unhappy with the report of the state government on the inquiry done after the ropeway accident in Trikut Hills in Deoghar, the Jharkhand high court on Tuesday directed it to file a fresh report in the matter.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad were hearing a public interest litigation initiated after the accident in Trikut Hills on April 10 earlier this year.
The accident led to the death of three tourists while many were injured.
The Trikut Hills ropeway has become a popular destination for tourists who scale the hill slopes in trollies on the ropeway.
The accident occurred when some ropeway cars collided with each other. Some cars with tourists kept hanging precariously at a height of 2,500 feet.
The army, NDRF and the local police were pressed into service to carry out rescue operations.
As many as 47 tourists were rescued in the process.
The matter was reported in all the local dailies in the state. The high court on April 12 had instituted a PIL suo motto and ordered the government to furnish a report.
The state government produced a report before the high court on Tuesday. The judges were not pleased with the report and observed that it is not up to the mark.
The government is expected to prepare a better report with insight into the incident and the reasons behind it.
The court ordered the government to file a fresh report and will take up the matter on January 14 next year.
