BAGALKOT: In a case eerily similar to the grisly Shraddha Walkar murder case, a man allegedly killed his father, chopped the body into 10-15 pieces and then dumped the body parts into a defunct borewell in his field near Mantur bypass road in Mudhol.
The deceased has been identified as Parashuram Kulali, 54, and the accused is his son, Vitthal Kulali, 21, who has been arrested.
This incident took place in Mudhol on December 6 but came to light on Tuesday, when police started investigation based on a missing person complaint lodged by Parashuram's wife. Bagalkot SP Jayaprakash told TOI that during interrogation the accused, Vitthal, admitted to murdering his father. Parashuram was an alcoholic and frequently quarrelled with his family. He had two sons and three daughters.
Vitthal hit his father using a rod On December 6 while working in their field in Mantur, the two got into a heated argument over a trivial issue. Vitthal lost his cool and picked up a rod lying nearby and started hitting his father. Parashuram died on the spot.
After killing his father, he tried to push the body in to the borewell in their field. However, he could not push the body down as the diameter of the borewell was just around 8 inches. He then decided to chop the body into several pieces. After chopping the body, he dumped the pieces into the borewell.
Parashuram's wife Saraswathi who is estranged from her husband has been staying with her elder son for the past few years. Vitthal told police that another person helped him in chopping and disposing the body parts in the well. "We are probing into this information and hope to nab whoever it was who helped him," the SP said.
"When we began investigations into Saraswathi's missing person complaint, we noticed that Vitthal was behaving suspiciously. We picked him up for questioning; he spilled the beans and admitted to killing his father. He used a sharp weapon to chop his father's body in to several pieces," SP Jayaprakash said. The murder weapon is yet to be recovered.
Mudhol police visited the field and dug up the area where the body pieces were buried using an earthmover and recovered some of the severed body parts. Vitthal has been remanded to judicial custody.
