CMCH secures third spot in state govt’s performance study
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Medical College Hospital secured the third place in a performance study conducted by the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Program (TNHSRP) for the six-month period from April to September this year.
Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai secured the first place followed by Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem.
The performance rate is the first of its kind carried out by the TNHSRP to rate the services provided by 36 government-run tertiary hospitals in the state.
Officials analysed 39 indicators, including number of MRI and ultrasound scans performed, administering anti-snake venom (ASV) to patients, doctors and nurses tally and number of cases handled by various departments in the hospital.
CMCH dean A Nirmala said, “The performance compilation was shared with us by the directorate of medical education early this week. The compilation shows that 238 doctors at CMCH had attended an average of 3,204 outpatients a day in the said period. The average number of inpatients per day was 1,353. The hospital had recorded an average of 644 child deliveries per month. A total of 344 lower segment Caesarean sections (LSCS) were performed in the six-month period.”
The dean said this performance rate will encourage healthcare professionals to work towards improving the hospital’s ranking the next time.
CMCH provides healthcare services to not only the Coimbatore district but also to the adjoining districts and records an average of 3,500 to 5,000 outpatients daily.
