Kalaburagi: Hindutva groups have objected to the railways’ decision of painting a wall green at Kalaburagi station. They said the colour would make the place look like a mosque.
During a protest at the station on Tuesday, the Hindutva organisations demanded that the wall be repainted, or else they would paint it saffron.
Laxmikant Swadi, the president of the Hindu Jagruti Sene, said the station was a public place and should not look like a mosque. “Earlier it (the wall) was white. It should be painted with any colour other than green. If officials fail to re-colour it, we will paint it saffron,” he warned.
The Hindutva organisations set a deadline of 15 days for the railways to repaint the wall in a different hue.
An official at Kalaburagi station, who requested anonymity, said that two walls of the station were being painted green according to instructions of central officials in the Solapur division. “It was instructed as per the suggestions of architects. However, after the protest, we have stopped the wall painting and are awaiting instructions from the Solapur divisional office,” he said.
