Thick fog slows down city traffic
Bhubaneswar: A blanket of thick fog on Wednesday engulfed the city causing inconvenience to people and affected rail, road and air traffic partially. This was amid little rise in minimum temperature across the state.
Vehicular movement slowed down in the city amid foggy condition. So did some trains which were running late owing to fog. There was, however, no specific report of any major trouble, according to reports.
The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the city also saw little delay on arrival and departure of specific flights due to fog, an official said.
An IMD report said people in Cuttack, Chandbali, Puri, Paradip and a few more places spread over five coastal districts also experienced dense fog reducing visibility to 50 metres leading to slow traffic movement.
Those districts are Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur.
Besides, shallow to moderate fog was experienced at isolated places spread over Angul district.
The IMD forecast said the prevailing trend of development of fog condition and rise in minimum temperature would continue in the state for the next couple of days.
Thereafter, minimum temperature is likely to see a gradual fall by three to four degrees Celsius.
H R Biswas, scientist and regional head of IMD centre in the city, said availability of moisture at very lower level influenced development of fog mostly in coastal pockets.
