Civic body to spend Rs 11.5 crore to resurface 3 Nashik roads
Peth Road residents took to the streets recently to protest over the poor condition of the road
NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has floated three separate tenders worth Rs 11.5 crore to resurface the existing roads at three locations in the city.
One is Peth Road, where the irked residents recently took to the streets to protest against the poor condition of the road.
The condition of Peth Road has deteriorated and it is riddled with potholes in the 6km stretch under the limits of Nashik city. The road is the state highway that leads to Gujarat.
Last month, over 200 residents from the area blocked the road to protest against the negligence of the civic body in repairing the road. They have so far staged demonstrations thrice in the past three months.
The civic body officials said earlier, they had planned to cover the entire 6km stretch of the road with concrete at a total cost of Rs 72 crore from the smart city funds.
The general body (GB) of the NMC had also given its nod to the proposal of the public works department of the civic body to cover the Peth road in the city limit with concrete from the smart city funds.
“We have sent the resolution of the NMC general body to the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) for the purpose. However, it will need approval from the board of directors of the smart city company, which will take a lot of time, said NMC officials.
“Hence, we have decided to resurface and repair the stretches of Peth Road in the city to facilitate the movement of motorists. We have just floated a tender for resurfacing the road at a cost of Rs 2.30 crore. The work will immediately begin once the tender process is over and the work order is given to the contractor,” said NMC officials.
Apart from Peth Road, the NMC has also floated another bid for resurfacing the road connecting the office of the Nashik divisional commissionerate at a cost of Rs 7.4 crore and other road leading to the Deolali Cantonment area at a total cost of Rs 2 crore.
