Varanasi: Union information & broadcasting, youth affairs and sports minister Anurag Thakur said here on Monday that two cultures are meeting through literature, culture and sports and other genres at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam.
While inaugurating a table tennis match organised at the multi-purpose hall on Banaras Hindu University campus as part of the eight-day Kashi Tamil Sangamam’s Sports Summit on Monday, Thakur said, “The relationship between North and South reflects the country's ancient traditions. Apart from literary and cultural events, efforts to strengthen the bonding of North and South through sports are also being made.”
Praising the vision of Prime Minister Narendar Modi, he further added that through this grand event, the vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ is being realized. “Teams from Uttar Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu are showing enthusiasm and passion for participating in the sports summit being organised as a part of the Sangamam,” he added.
Thakur said that the people of Tamil Nadu are not only getting an opportunity to visit Kashi Vishwanath Dham, but are also getting acquainted with the art and culture of this place which is a matter of pride for all. After meeting the players of UP and Tamil Nadu teams, he inaugurated the table tennis match by trying his hand on the table.
Earlier, Thakur offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and also enjoyed Banarasi ‘kachauri-jalebi’.
Thakur took stock of I&B offices apart from visiting Sampurnanand Sports Stadium to know the progress in the ongoing work of developing modern sports complex.
