ROURKELA: The excise department officials have decided to write to tehsildar, Birmitrapur, seeking details of the land on which the school building was constructed at Phuljhar village in Nuagaon block of Sundargarh district where a spurious IMFL unit was being run.
Surendra Badaik(44), the school owner, was arrested along with another person. Following the incident, the headmaster has decided to quit.
Acting on a tip-off, excise officials raided an English medium school on Sunday morning and seized 936 litres of spurious IMFL as well as 1,248 bottles as well as fake labels and caps from the illegal bottling unit. During interrogation, Badaik told excise officials that he had constructed the school on his own land.
"He was operating a liquor unit from inside the school. I will write to the tehsildar, Birmitrapur, seeking details of the land, and accordingly we will mention it in the chargesheet to make the case strong," said Snehalata Naik, inspector, state excise, Rourkela.
On Monday, about six students turned up in school which wore a deserted look. Headmaster Narendra Gope has decided to quit the school. "I am absolutely shocked after coming to know about the liquor unit being run from the school. It is really shameful," said Gope.
