Maha clears Rs 35k cr worth projects in Gadchiroli, Chanda
Mumbai: The state’s cabinet sub-committee on industries on Tuesday cleared 13 projects worth Rs 70,000 crore. This includes as many as three large projects worth Rs 35,520 crore that will come up in naxal-affected Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts.
As many as six of 13 projects cleared on Tuesday are in the Vidarbha region from where deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis hails. Three projects are based in Marathwada, three in Pune and one in Nashik.
Four older projects worth Rs 6,900 crore, which had been signed earlier but needed further clearances by the sub-committee, have also got the green signal. Among the new projects cleared is a Rs 10,000-crore electric vehicle project by the Mahindra group in Pune’s Chakan area.
The projects are spread over backward regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada as well as the developed areas of Nashik and Pune and are expected to generate 55,000 jobs. The Shinde government has been under attack from the opposition regarding the flight of investments after key projects like Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata Airbus slipped out of its hands.
“We have successfully managed to bring in new investments and retain older projects. We took up four older projects worth Rs 6,900 crore for which MoUs had been signed when Fadnavis was the chief minister but the cabinet sub-committee had not met and the projects could not proceed. These were signed between 2016 and 2019,” said industries minister Uday Samant.
The sub-committee cleared three projects in Vidarbha’s naxal-affected Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts. This includes a Rs 20,000 crore green technology project in Chandrapur called New Era Clean Tech. It has also cleared projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore by Lloyd Metals and Energy in Gadchiroli. Another Rs 1,520 crore project by Varad Ferro Alloys has been cleared in Gadchiroli.
In order to encourage the textile industry in Vidarbha’s Amravati and Nagpur, the sub-committee also cleared a Rs 2,500 crore Indorama Synthetics project. It also cleared a Rs 4,206 crore project by Reliance Life Sciences in Nashik for Plaza ProteinVaccine and gene therapy.
This is the second meeting of the cabinet-sub-committee of the Shinde government. In the earlier meeting held in October, projects worth Rs 25,368 crore were cleared.
The Rs 10,000-crore EV project will be undertaken by Mahindra Electric Vehicle Automobiles. It is expected to generate intellectual property on the prototype for electric vehicles.
